The name of this coffee shop in Russian is “Т.Ч.К. (T. Ch.K.)”, an abbreviation meaning “dot” or “point”, you’re about to learn why this bizarre name was chosen.
If you’re a coffee connoisseur then this is one of the few places in Saint-Petersburg you can treat yourself at. This place isn’t easy to find, it’s hidden in a quiet inner courtyard, is hardly bigger than a storage room at your house, has an old car in a courtyard for a table and yet it’s almost always packed with coffee enthusiasts. Let me explain why. It’s a coffee-focused place, there is simply no room to chill a couple of hours with your laptop and the owners, who are frequently seen behind the counter, are very serious about their job and even don’t want to expand to a network to preserve quality and control over the process. The quality of coffee is as high as you can get in St.Petersburg. It’s been ages since my visit to Tim Wendelboe’s coffees hop in Oslo and I’ve never been to New Zealand or Australia but I’m willing to bet that if you’re from one of those places and are accustomed to only the best coffee, you will not be disappointed. The taste is always different since the staff is constantly experimenting and purchasing different beans but if you enjoy sour flavours in your coffee I’d recommend ordering espresso made with one of the African species, it will be extremely bright. Espresso made with beans from South or Central America will give you a wonderful, complex and well-balanced taste ranging from chocolate and nuts to tea and dried plum. You may also ask for a V60 or something similar, but I’d recommend ordering their signature drink made through an ordinary American-style drip machine. They’ve perfected it and made its taste very sophisticated. While you’re there, don’t forget to order a dessert, they are made according to in-house recipes and almost criminally delicious.
